Come enjoy some live and local jazz each Friday night starting at 7p.m. in the Museum. Guest artists include: Bobby Rhodes & the Ministry of Jazz, the Mirage Jazz Band and Improv.
FIRST FRIDAYS: Bobby Rhodes & The Ministry of Jazz
Rev. Bobby Rhodes, Sr. became interested in music at the age of 12 and taught himself how to play guitar. Note for note, he learned the songs of the great jazz guitarists Wess Montgomery, Joe Pass and George Benson in his early years. Eventually his unique style of playing emerged. In High School Bobby played guitar in the jazz stage band, later top 40 bands, as well as jazz combos while in college. Jazz influenced but gospel inspired, Bobby Rhodes has come into his own as a Gospel/Jazz artists.

"Bobby Rhodes - The Ministry of Jazz," his first debut CD, is an instrumental gospel/jazz work comprised of seven gospel favorites performed in traditional acoustic jazz style. On live dates, his repertoire includes tunes from the CD as well as interpretations of jazz standards. Over the years, Bobby Rhodes has become a locally well-known and respected guitarists, vocalist and producer.

SECOND FRIDAYS: The Mirage Jazz Band
Diamond Cole, pianist, actor and performer has studied and performed with Alvin Batiste's Jazzstronauts, Cannonball Adderly, and Grammy Honoree Barry Harris. He recently appeared in "Ain't Misbehavin' " with the City Park Players of Alexandria as Fats Waller-the late Jazz Musician.

Leo Glasper, self-taught lead guitarist, has been playing since the age of 7. Inspired by the sounds of Glover Washington, Glasper exudes Funk-Straight Up! Leo Glasper is home grown (a native of Alexandria) and continually plays in local venues.

The Mirage Jazz Band is the brainchild of Diamond Cole and Leo Glasper, creating an oasis of sounds for your spirit and mind. Having formed in 2004, the Mirage Jazz Band fuses together smooth jazz, funk and other healing elements.
